Sailing
Brevard water and wind conditions suitable for all types of sailing:
Brevard County is one of those rare areas of the country where water and wind conditions suit every design of sailing vessel from sailboards to cruisers.
The protected waters of the Indian and Banana rivers are ideal for sailing.
When the winds are up, the board sailors are out in force, skimming along the shallow inland system with the speed of powerboats.
There is plenty of room and wind, even for cruiser types.
Enthusiasts looking for bigger bodies of water and wide open spaces can head for the Atlantic using ocean links, such as Port Canaveral or the Fort Pierce Inlet.
For competitive and social aspects of sailing, Brevard has six yacht clubs and other sailing clubs. Some concentrate on a racing or cruising calendar, others on a social calendar, and some on all three.
The East Coast Sailing Association and most yacht clubs also host river and ocean races.
